For me, like for many people, martial arts is a lifetime endeavour.
But as I approach my 50th year I don’t (or can’t) do the same things I used to do in my teens or twenties.
I used to feel guilty about this, but then I heard Dan Inosanto talk about how your game needs to change every 10 years to adapt to the changes in your body. He started training at age 11 and is still practising martial arts in his 80’s, so he certainly knows what he’s talking about!
In this video and/or podcast I share what Dan Inosanto said about this 10 year martial arts training cycle.
You can listen to this in episode 147 of my podcast. It’s just a 5 minute quickie unlike some of the longer interview-format episodes.
My podcast is called “The Strenuous Life Podcast” and you can find it on iTunes, Stitcher, Soundcloud and Google Play.
Or you can listen to it in the embedded player below…
Or you can watch the same rant about modifying your martial arts training as you age in the embedded video below from the Self Defense Tutorials Youtube channel!
Good luck with your training no matter how old you are!
