A 5 Second Self Defense Exercise That Could Save Your Life

STOP what you’re doing and try this SUPER-QUICK mental exercise…

Imagine you’re exactly where you are now (lying in bed, sitting on the bus, working at your desk, whatever)…

But now you know for sure that you’re about to be attacked!

The guy is bigger than you and possibly armed with a knife…

For whatever reason, you can’t run…

You have 5 seconds to get your hand on some sort of equaliser…

WHAT EXACTLY WOULD YOU GRAB?!?

(For the sake of this exercise let’s assume that this can’t be a weapon you already have on you as part of your every day carry.  Let’s say that your regular weapon has been lost, dropped or is broken…)

Remember, your makeshift equaliser doesn’t need to be a weapon per se.

It could be a pillow to block with… A flashlight to use as a blinding tool…  A handful of coins to use as a distraction…

Because something in your hands is almost always better than nothing. You don’t have to use it but having it right there gives you options.

Case in point; in 2017 a Rock Hill South Carolina man used a plastic lightsabre toy to successfully defend against a knife attack.

Police reports state that the man was attacked by his stepdaughter who was wielding two kitchen knives; he used the plastic toy to defend himself and survive the incident.

Who knows how that would have turned out if he hadn’t had that nearby?

So, what would you grab if you were about to be attacked and how could you use it?

This is always a good mental exercise!

Stephan

P.S. On a related note here’s a video I shot in which we found more than 10 different types of improvised weapons in a single block of an alley.

Check it out – I also discuss how you might use these weapons and I promise you that we got some very strange looks while filming it!

I accidentally followed the advice of a mini-mall ninja master

I’m limping around right now because of a torn groin.  It’s not serious; it’ll heal up, but it’s my own damn fault.
