Today’s message is short and really simple, but it’s important. And it’s a mistake that I see people make all the time…
The mistake is walking around with your hands buried in your pocket. If someone decides to attack you when you’re like this, with your best weapons sheathed and out of commission, then you’re a sitting duck.
It’s already tough enough to defend against a sucker punch when your hands are out and up, but if they’re jammed inside your hoodie then you’re helpless. You can’t block, you can’t cover up, and even dodging is tough.
And it’s not all about defending overtly violent attacks. Sometimes it’s just about keeping someone out of your face. But even something as simple as a one-armed Heisman trophy shove to keep someone out of punching and grappling range is almost impossible if both hands are in your jeans…
Moral of the story: keep your hands OUT of your pockets.
If it’s a cold then wear gloves, or at least alternate having one hand out at a time.
And if it’s really cold and you simply must walk with both of your hands out of commission then know that you’re vulnerable. Compensate by being on high alert. Look around you and maintain the constant vigilance mindset. If you pass someone suspicious then casually take your hands out while you’re at close range.
That’s the gist of it, but if you want some more details then check out the video I shot on the topic for the self defense tutorials youtube channel below…
